Bethel Park Soccer Association

A natural extension to our in-house program, Travel Soccer is an important part of soccer in Bethel Park.  The primary goal of BPSA Travel Soccer is the total development of players from 9 to 14 years old in the game of soccer.  The program provides talented and promising players enhanced exposure to the game, the opportunity for quality coaching and the chance to compete against teams of similar talent.  Our program's objective is to field teams of the highest possible quality to represent BPSA in the PAWest District 4 South Division and possibly the PAWest State Open Soccer Tournament.  BPSA Travel Soccer teams follow the rules and regulations of PAWest, USYSA and its affiliated organizations.   Bethel Park Soccer Association Travel teams are members of US Youth Soccer and PA West District 4 - South.
What to expect from Travel Soccer:
  • Team training sessions twice a week for 1.5 to 2 hours per session.
  • 6 to 9 match season in the fall and spring; matches are played on Sunday.
  • BPSA typically fields teams in the Under 10 thru Under 13 age groups (see age chart below). Teams will play in leagues based on ability with 4 being the highest caliber of travel play. Younger teams typically start out in Division  5 or 6. Older teams assemble under guidleines set each year by working with the Travel committee
  • Teams will travel to local communities for away matches; Division 4 teams will likely travel greater distances to play against other select teams.
  • Selection to a team is based on the player's assessed skills. A skill assessment is typically held in late spring to help coaches place travel players on the appropriate skill-based teams for the fall season.
  • For development purposes the BPSA prefers to not 'max-out' rosters.
  • Players are provided a uniform jersey, shorts and matching socks. $35.00 fee is collected by the head coach at the time of ordering.
  • One or two fundraising activities per season
  • U9 & U10 travel players should continue to play with their Saturday Flight teams; U11 travel players are encouraged to participate in available Saturday in-house programs.
The deadline for registering for Travel Soccer is 3-4 weeks before the deadline of our in-house "Flights" program.  Players who wish to start in the Travel program during a spring season should contact the Registrar or the appropriate age group coach.  Team rosters are limited based upon PAWest guidelines.

IMPORTANT: Travel teams are formed before the previous Fall season. Additional players for the Spring season may be considered on a case by case basis.  Register online and the Travel Registrar will contact you about availability.  If there are not enough registrants or there are no roster spots available to form a team, you will be refunded.

Birth Year Age Changes for 2016-2017 Season

U.S. Youth Soccer and U.S. Club Soccer have mandated changes to age classification guidelines that will take effect for the 2016-2017 season. This statement clarifies the age classification implementation for Bethel Park Soccer Association (BPSA) and will be used to structure evaluations and team formation for the 2016-2017 season.

The table below shows the mapping of age groups to birth years for all ages required to evaluate for travel teams in Bethel Park based on the new age classification guidelines for the 2016-2017 season.

Birth Year

Age Group

Position and Guidelines

BPSA adherence to the age classification changes is based upon literal guidelines for age denominations as detailed in the table above. All BPSA players born between 2005-2008 are required to evaluate in their birth year group. Travel teams for 2016-2017 will be formed by the BPSA Travel Committee based on the results of evaluations and appropriate roster sizes at the different age groups. BPSA realizes that this direct implementation of the age classification guidelines will restructure existing BPSA travel teams. The BPSA board has determined that the direct implementation of the age classification guidelines is in the best interest of BPSA players and teams. As is traditional for BPSA, players born in or before 2004 (U13) are not required to evaluate and teams will be formed based on availability, level of play, and coach discretion.

BPSA Travel Philosophy

BPSA’s philosophy for travel soccer is to maximize the opportunities for the youth of Bethel Park to play soccer in a healthy, competitive environment. BPSA aims to place as many players as possible on travel teams that are aligned with their skill level and to place teams of players at appropriate levels of competition.
