Board MeetingMarch 13,

Tom Vater, President of the Bethel Park Soccer Association (BPSA) called the meeting to order at 7:10 PM in the Caucus Room of the Bethel Park Municipal Building. Also present were Dave Conely, Matt Scott, Bill Wolf, Jim Huber, Donna Orsini, Jack Kun, Don Snyder, Bob Monte, Jim Rhoades, Tony Bruno, Bill Boehner, Ray Conway, Scott Bradley, Tom Boss, Russ Spicuzza, Dan Saffer and Rich.
Secretary’s Report: The minutes were posted on the website and distributed at the meeting. There were no changes that were noted. Motion was made to approve the minutes by Bob Monte and seconded by Jim Rhoades. The motion passed unanimously.
Treasurer’s Report: Jim Rhoades gave a balance of $25,630.61. Jim will work with Jack Kun on the transition to treasurer. There is one outstanding bill. No money from the Bethel Park Rec Department at this time. Jack provided the 2007 budget. Due to less players, BPSA is $5,000 below goal and PA West soccer has raised its fees, Jack proposed to increase fees to cover. BPSA has absorbed the MLS increase for a couple years by not raising prices.
President’s Report: Tom attended the district meeting in January. The president was not there. The registrar was not there. There was a scheduled meeting 3/5 in which Bill Young was elected president. The general PA West meeting is scheduled for the week of March 19th.
COMMITTEES:
Registration - 450 players registered for Flight. 204 players are registered for travel. There were 28 new players registered for travel. Dan suggested to impose a strong hand on the deadline to register and if someone wants to register after the date, charge a late fee ($20 or $25). Matt advised as a Flight Commissioner he has told people that teams are filled and puts them on a list in case they need a player. Tom asked the board to table the discussion until the next board meeting and put more background to it.
Communications – It was suggested to get the fall flyers out prior to the end of flights (at least 2 weeks prior) and before the end of school. Tom wants to get a new booklet out as well. Tom wanted to meet with Don and Bill after the meeting to go over more detail for the booklet.
PR/Fundraising – Matt is to provide Tom with the Redford information.
Player/Coach Development – Bill's focus is on Flight 2 to add the training day. They expect it to be on Wednesday from 6:00 - 7:00 or 6:30 - 7:30 at Ben Franklin field. Tom Boss looked at the field schedules to determine which field the Flight 2 training day could be used. Tom was able to adjust the schedule to accommodate Flight 2 at Ben Franklin on Wednesdays. It was suggested to provide the Flight 2 Wednesday practice on the website. Bill Wolf is the contact for the Flight 2 practice.
There is a summer camp June 25 - 28 along with Jr. G Force evening camp at Village Green.
Shoot to score July 8 - 14 and July 3- to August 3 at Village Green.
MLS camp for U10, U11 & U12 August 20 - 24 at Village Green.
Goalkeeper training - Matt spoke to the High School girls goalie coach, Doc, who is interested in training for free. Looking for 3/25 for a train the trainer session with 4 -6 coaches. Then work with the kids on 4/12 or 4/14 with the help of the coaches at different stations. Tony has a goal keeper coach who charges $200 for 2 hours.
Flights – Don is waiting on the rosters to get them out. Bill to help on Flight 5.
Travel Commissioner & Registrar – Tom advised all teams are registered. Stickered roster and player cards will be distributed. New card will be required in the fall session. Tom suggested that the coaches get a digital picture of each player. Tom suggested to have tryouts by the end of spring for the fall teams.
Referees – 14 new referees and 46 returning referees.
Fields – Flight 1, 2 & 3 will be at Village Green. Flight 4 boys at Ben Franklin. Flight 5 boys at Ben Franklin. Flight 5 girls at Neil Armstrong.
Equipment – Tony suggested to have the parents pay for the kids travel shirts so the kids may keep the shirts. He also suggested to get sponsors for the flight teams. Russ advised sponsors are hard to come by because all sport teams are soliciting sponsorship. Tony will put a proposal together for the fall session.
Jack advised the flight shirts have been ordered and he will get some larger sizes for the kids. Some flight shirts are at Jacks. There is no update for the travel shirts. We need to get the travel jerseys back. The coaches shirt were received, but they had the wrong logo. The supplier is getting the correct shirts sent.
Community Liaison – Russ advised he put in a request to the Bethel Park Community fund and may qualify for $2,000 - $4,000. Tom reviewed the newsletter from Donna and will get it approved to be placed on the website. Donna suggested to advertise an equipment exchange with in the Bethel Park soccer flights. Russ suggested to have a non-perishable food drive for flights. Each players bring a donation. BPSA gets free positive publicity.
Website - Tom asked to have Austin's information taken off because BPSA will get a new MLS representative the year.
Player Appreciation - Dave asked if the trailer can be moved to Millennium Field to have the Player appreciation for flights on May 28. This will be looked into to see it is possible. Dan volunteered to put together the player appreciation day for the travel teams.
Old Business –
New Business – Tom put forth the idea to add Doc Weimer as Bethel Park Soccer Association coach. Bill made a motion to add Doc Weimer as a coach and Jim 2nd the motion.
Don made a motion to increase flights by $2.00 and travel by $7.00 for the fall session. Ray 2nd the motion.
Bill made a motion to accept the proposed budget, Don 2nd the motion.
