BETHEL PARK SOCCER ASSOCIATION

Board Meeting – December 12, 2006

 

Tom Vater President of the Bethel Park Soccer Association (BPSA) called the meeting to order at 7:15 PM in the Caucus Room of the Bethel Park Municipal Building. Also present were Dave Conely, Matt Scott, Bill Harvey, Bill Wolf, Jim Huber, Jeff Hulbert, Donna Orsini, Jack Kun, Russ Spicuzza, Don Snyder and Matt Yee.

 

Secretary’s Report: The minutes were posted on the website and distributed at the meeting. Jim Rhoades was unable to attend.  Jim Huber took the minutes for the meeting. There were some minor changes that were noted and will be corrected. Motion was made to approve the minutes by Russ Spicuzza and seconded by Dave Conely. The motion passed unanimously.

                                                    

Treasurer’s Report: Jack Kun gave a balance in the checking and savings accounts of $33,487.05. Jack Kun stated we received the final check from the recreation department.  BPSA received a check from the United Way (1-800-255-0418).  This was from Russ Spicuzza's donation from work.  It was suggested that all members look into sending their United Way donation to BPSA.  Russ' donation number showed as 338147 from the donation receipt.

 

President’s Report: 

·        Tom Vater advised the Mintier situation has been taken care of and the player's spring session was refunded.

·        A flyer was sent out with all the important BPSA dates along with the BPSA 2007 ballot and the spring registration.  Dave Conely noted the birth dates in the Couriers were incorrect for Flight 3.  Jim Huber will check the DOB on the website registration form.

·        Tom Vater advised the ballots would be reviewed and counted at the end of the meeting.

 

 

Committees:

 

Registration -

§      Don Snyder stated there were 82 Players for Travel and 113 Players for Flights are paid for the whole year.  The recreation office advised they had 4 or 5 new sign ups in the office that Don was going to pick up.

·        Don was looking for volunteers for January 17 to man the registration table.  Tom mentioned we may sell apparel and summer camp items at registration.

 

Communications –

  • No Report

 

Referees –

  • There is a referee clinic 2/10 - 2/11 at Bethel Park High School.
  • 46 of last years referees re-certified. Only 3 referees did not re-cert. 

 

Travel Commissioner  & Registrar –

  • Adding new players to any team would require the team to re-card all the players.  Tom has the new form with the new fonts.  He advised to register the player first then re-card the team.
  • In the fall, BPSA will look to see if there is room on teams for new players.  BPSA will look not to shuffle the teams.
  • New cards are needed each year instead of every two years.

 

PR/Fundraising –

  • Matt Scott reported that the Bruce Brothers will do the ball promo again.  Bruce Brother gave away 130 balls in the fall which was below the response they expected.  Matt will speak to Uniroyal about the timed of getting the ball promo to the players.  One suggestion was to have the promotion information at the registration table.  Matt will advise after he speaks to Uniroyal.

 

Player/Coach Development –

  • Bill Wolf discussed upcoming opportunities. 
  •     Tryouts for Victory U12 will be held on 1/17/07.
  •     Three-Rivers Classic Cup - U14 is the youngest group.  Bill will get more information on this event.
  •     Beadling is starting a Junior team, U8, U9 and U10 for North & South.
  • Bill will put together a list of what is available.  Bill, Tom and Matt Scott will be the contacts.
  • Shoot-to-Score will be July 9 - 13.
  • D-license is a 2-week course starting 1/14/07 in Monroeville and 1/21/07 in Slippery Rock.

 

Flights –

  • Bill Harvey advised he will contact the flight commissioners after the 1st of the year.

 

Fields –

  • Flight 4 may be possible on Millennium Field in the spring.
  • Village Green bathroom doors have been damaged.  Tom will check to get new keys for the spring.

         

Equipment –

  • BPSA is waiting to hear from Sezzo on shirts.

 

Community Liaison

  • Russ says grant request into Wal-Mart, he will follow up with representative to see if it will be for the 1st half of the year or 2nd half of the year.
  • Russ stated there is no access to the Park Ave field scoreboard with the new booth at the field.  He will follow up with the access to the booth.

 

Website -

  • Jim Huber reported the flight pictures are on the site.
  • Jim created a tribute webpage to the high school teams.  Tom still wants to put a tribute to the high school teams in the paper.  Jeff Hulbert will get team pictures from the high school.

 

Player Appreciation -

  • This will be updated in January.

 

Old Business

  • Jeff asked if BPSA is still interested in getting a plaque for the high school  team.  Tom asked if there is anywhere the team to place the plaque.
  • Tom is looking to invite the boys and girls coaches to the February program to get players involved with coaching.
  • Tom and Dave will talk to MLS and other areas for coaching experience to help with our travel teams, as well as other options for coaching experience.

 

New Business –

  • Tom opened the floor for elections.  There are 17 nominees on the ballot.  The by-laws state 3 -15 people to complete the board.
  • Russ made a motion to amend the by-laws to allow 17 people on the board.  Bill 2nd the motion.  The board passed the motion unanimously.
  • A motion was passed to elect all 17 people on the ballot.  Bill Boehner, Tom Boss, Scott Bradley, Tony Bruno, Dave Conely, Ray Conway, Jim Huber, Jeff Hulbert, Jack Kun, Bob Monte, Donna Orsini, Jim Rhoades, Matt Scott, Don Snyder, Tom Vater, Bill Wolf and Matt Yee were all elected to the Bethel Park Soccer Association board for 2007.
  • A motion was made to re-elect Tom Vater as President of the Board.  The motion was seconded and then passed unanimously.
  • A motion was made to re-elect Bob Monte as Vice President of the Board.  The motion was seconded and then passed unanimously.
  • A motion was made to re-elect Jack Kun as Treasure of the Board.  The motion was seconded and then passed unanimously.
  • A motion was made to elect Jim Huber as Secretary of the Board.  The motion was seconded and then passed unanimously.
  • These are the 2007 Officers of the Board.
  • Tom wanted to send a special thanks to Russ Spicuzza, Bill Harvey, Mark Vescovi, Ed Emmitt and Mike Hammer for their time and dedication to BPSA over the years.  Congratulations to the members leaving BPSA at this time and thank you!
  • Tom advised he will discuss committee assignments at the January 9th meeting.  He also provided a planning session preview.
  • Jim from the Rec Board attended the BPSA meeting.  He liked how the meeting was run.  Jim discussed  how to run the field situation and what BPSA could do to get the most out of the fields.  Tom advised anything BPSA could do to assist to please let BPSA know and we will do what we can to help.

 

Bill Harvey made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Russ Spicuzza seconded the motion. All were in favor and the meeting was adjourned at 8:40PM.
