BETHEL PARK SOCCER ASSOCIATION

Board Meeting – September 12, 2006

 

Tom Vater President of the Bethel Park Soccer Association (BPSA) called the meeting to order at 8:04 PM in the Caucus Room of the Bethel Park Municipal Building. Also present were Dave Conely, Jim Rhoades, Don Snyder, Matt Scott, Bob Monte, Bill Harvey, Ed Emmett, Jack Kun, Bill Wolf, Jim Huber, Russ Spicuzza, Tom Boss, Tom Page, and Ray Conway.

 

Secretary’s Report: The minutes were posted on the website and distributed at the meeting. Motion was made to approve the minutes by Bob Monte and seconded by Jack Kun. The motion passed.

                                                                  

Treasurer’s Report: Jack Kuhn gave a balance in the checking and savings accounts of $31,157.99. Jack stated that we had received a check from Gary Lafever of around $16,000. Also Jack suggested that we increase the price for Travel Soccer from $3 to $5 dollars in the fall of 2007. The price of flights should not change.

 

President’s Report: 

·         Tom Vater wanted to thank Jim Huber and everyone who helped with Community Day on September 9, 2006.

·         Tom Vater got a copy from PA West of our insurance policy and everybody in the BPSA is covered.

 

Committees:

 

Registration -

§         Don Snyder reported that there were 192 players registered for travel and 425 players registered for flights. Fight 1 has 91 players, Flight 2 has 90 players, Flight 3 has 74 players, Flight 4 has 68 players, Flight 5 Girls has 68 players and Flight 5 Boys has 34 players.

§         Flight registration has gone down by 20 to 25 players.

 

Communications –

  • Giant Eagle will be printing up brochures regarding the organization and references to the BPSA.

 

Referees –

  • It was noted that two referees for Flight 3 did not show up for their games.
  • Also referees did not show up for a Sunday Travel game. Discussion followed and this will be brought up to the scheduler of referees.

 

 Travel Commissioner  & Registrar –

  • Next year the Travel Cards will need to be reprinted for a new system. Discussion follows.

 


PR/Fundraising –

  • Jim Huber discussed Community Day which was held on September 9, 2006 and thanked everyone for there help. Tom Vater reiterated that point and thanked Jim Huber for his efforts.  Jim has a list of things that are left and what is needed for next year. The profit on the sandwiches was $490.00 and the apparel amount was not known at this point.
  • Matt Scott stated that pictures were going to be done on Saturday by Redford Photography. Parents have an opportunity to purchase cards for the child which is eight for $14.00.
  • The coupon for the free soccer ball from Bruce Brothers will be passed out this Saturday.

 

Player/Coach Development –

  • Bill Wolf stated he has not received any feedback on the curriculum he had put together.
  • Simon has one and a half hours to possibly help with Travel team on Friday nights. Discussion followed regarding U9 Boys and Girls at Village Green from 6PM to 730PM. If there are not enough kids interested then we should open the time up for other Flights.
  • There was a good E License course attendance with 20 to 25 participating. The local people taking the course were 20 and the rest from out of the district. 

 

Flights –

  • Bill Harvey discussed that the Flight 1 Commissioner were not to sure of what needed to be done. Bill suggested that we need to help them as much as we can.
  • The twelfth net is missing from Village Green.
  • The coach’s shirts are on back order and we ordered 60 shirts.

 

Fields –

  • There is no update on Millennium Field.
  • Soccer will be played on the new High School turf on Sundays.
  • Hillcrest Academy is using the field at Neil Armstrong. Tom Boss stated Hillcrest Academy wanted bigger lines painted on the field and tom stated we need funds to do this painting.

           

Equipment –

  • Ed Emmett passed out all Travel uniforms and discussion followed about shirts.

 

Community Liaison

  • No Report

 

Website -

  • Jim Huber updated the Travel schedule on the Web Site.
  • We are encouraging getting player’s parents E Mail addresses for updates and increased distribution.

 

Old Business

  • Matt Scott discussed the extending of registration. Much discussion followed and it was agreed to table the issue until next month. Motion was made by Jack Kun and seconded by Russ Spicuzza all were in favor.

 


New Business –

  • The Coaches Appreciation Dinner will be November 3, 2006 at the Community Center.
  • Tom Vater would like people to think of other people to be nominated for the board in the upcoming year.

 

Bob Monte made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Bill Harvey seconded the motion. All were in favor and the meeting was adjourned at 9:23 PM.

 

 

Upcoming Dates -

  • September 16, 2006:  Picture Day
  • September 23, 2006 Coles Cup possibly at South Park.
  • October 10, 2006 Next Board Meeting
  • November 3, 2006 Coaches Appreciation Dinner.

 

 

Next Board meeting will be October 10, 2006, at 8:00PM in Caucus Room.
