Tom Vater President of the Bethel Park Soccer Association
(BPSA) called the meeting to order at 8:08 PM in the Caucus Room
of the Bethel Park Municipal Building. Also present were Dave
Conely, Jim Rhoades, Don Snyder, Matt Scott, Bob Monte, Bill
Harvey, Ed Emmett, Jack Kun, Bill Wolf, Jim Huber, Mark Vescovi
and Ray Conway.
Secretary’s Report: The minutes were
posted on the website and distributed at the meeting. It was
noted that there had been changes made to the minutes and posted
on the website. A motion was made to approve the minutes as
posted on the website by Bill Wolf and seconded by Jack Kun.
Motion passed.
Treasurer’s Report: Jack Kuhn gave a balance in the
checking and savings accounts of $24,631.99. Jack discussed and
passed out the 2006 and 2007 Budget. Discussion followed about
reports and Jack Kun answered questions.
President’s Report:
- Tom Vater reported that Mary Beth, the coordinator of
the donated equipment, said thank you to us for our
contributions.
- Tom Vater went to the PA West Presidents Meeting. Items
discussed were the registration only being for one year and
that there would be two types of player cards. Tom noted
that we were not getting things in a timely manner until
late July which is a problem for us. Player’s cards are good
for this year and PA West is charging $6 for each Travel
team that uses there Web Site. After the meeting there was
discussion of another league being created. Discussion
followed and we are going to continue to be part of PA West.
Committees:
Registration -
- Don Snyder reported that there were 192 players
registered for travel and 425 players registered for
flights. Fight 1 has 91 players, Flight 2 has 90 players,
Flight 3 has 74 players, Flight 4 has 68 players, Flight 5
Girls has 68 players and Flight 5 Boys has 34 players.
- Flight registration is continuing until further notice
due to low registration. Jim Huber will take deadline off
Web Site.
Communications –
Referees –
Travel Commissioner & Registrar –
- There is a scheduled meeting set for August 20, 2006 at
the West Mifflin Fire Hall. Player cards will be discussed.
- Discussion followed on U12 Team being mixed with boys
and girls.
PR/Fundraising –
- Jim Huber discussed Community Day which will be
September 9, 2006 and we will have the same spot as last
year. Travel Team parents will be at the booth for two hour
time slots. Bob Monte has the schedule and will give it to
Jim Huber.
- Matt Scott will coordinate picture day on September 16,
2006 for Flights and the Travel Teams will be on September
17, 2006. Redford Photography will be doing the pictures.
- Bob Monte talked to Bruce Brothers regarding the ball
giveaway. Discussion followed. There will be coupons for the
free balls.
Player/Coach Development –
- Bill Wolf stated that there were 30 kids for the MLS
Camp. Also there were 26 kids for Shoot to Score and they
all went well.
- The first draft of the player/coach Curriculum was done
and Simon helped to put it together.
- There is a Coaches Clinic the weekend of August 13, 2006
and there are 25 coaches registered.
Flights –
- Bill Harvey discussed Flight Commissioners
- Commissioner Assignments are Flight 1 - Kelly Mehalko,
Flight 2 - Matt Scott, Flight 3 - Dave Conley, Flight 4 -
Don Snyder, Flight 5 Girls - Tom Boss with assistants Jim
Rhoades and Tom Page. Flight 5 Boys has not been determined
at this time.
- The first Travel Game will be September 10, 2006.
Fields –
- There is no update on Millennium Field.
- Soccer will be played on the new High School turf on
Sundays.
- Tom Vater asked when the Travel Coaches wanted to
practice and when it is decided to e-mail Tom Boss.
- Football will be using Village Green to practice.
Equipment –
- Ed Emmett to get a count on equipment.
- Jack Kun will handle Flight equipment and Ed Emmett will
handle Travel equipment.
Community Liaison –

- Changes were made to minutes and posted on website.
- Jim Huber is working on the data base and updating the
website.

- There was discussion of a Coaches appreciation dinner on
October 27, 2006 at the Community Center.
Bob Monte made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Dave
Conley seconded the motion. All were in favor and the meeting
was adjourned at 9:52 PM.
