BOARD MEETING 5/9/06
Tom Vater President of the Bethel Park Soccer Association
(BPSA) called the meeting to order at 8:10 PM in the Caucus Room of the Bethel Park Municipal Building. Also present were Dave Conely, Jim Huber, Jim
Rhoades, Don Snyder, Mark Vescovi, Matt Scott, Bob Monte, Bill Harvey, Ed
Emmitt, Russ Spicuzza, Jack Kun, and Bill Wolf.
Secretary’s Report: The minutes were posted on the website, and
distributed at the meeting. It was noted that there had been changes made to
the minutes and posted on the website. A motion was made to approve the minutes
as posted on the website by Ed Emmitt and seconded by Mark Vescovi. Motion
passed.
Treasurer’s Report: Jack Kuhn gave a balance in the account of
$22,930.66. Jack sent an E mail to Gary Lafever regarding spring proceeds and
BPSA will be getting a check soon.
President’s Report:

Tom Vater had a
meeting with MLS Personnel. Discussion followed with Jack Kun
stating that MLS wanted us to get an additional coach that we do not
want. Further discussion followed on the subject.

Flights start
in the Fall 2006 on September 2, 2006
·
Tom Vater
stated that there is a lot to get done by the end of the season. He wants
people to help out at as many of the events as they can.

Tom Vater had a
meeting with the director of the recreation department and was asked for
information and information was given.
Committees:
Registration -
§
Don Snyder will
be running registration table on May 24th from 7 to 8:30 pm for fall 2006 in Council Chambers.
§
Volunteers for
registration are Jim Rhoades, Jim Huber , Bill Wolf , and Tom Vater.
Communications –
- Don Snyder brought
to the meeting a sample of the booklet to be given out the flights and
travel games. Discussion followed and the booklet was passed around to all
board members.
- Don Snyder will
distribute booklet the week of May 22, 2006 and discussion followed.
Referees –
- Tom Vater noted that
the referees have been consistent in doing a good job from week to week.
- Russ noted one
problem with a referee who was late for a 230PM game and came at 240PM. He
also stated that there had to be better hand signals on the field from the
referees and discussion followed.
- Thanks to Mark
Vescovi for setting up the web-page with referee names and phone
numbers. We are working to expand
that on the web-site this coming month.
Travel Commissioner & Registrar –
- There was discussion
on how the travel team looked for U10 through U15.
- Tom Vater and Jack
Kuhn discussed kids playing up in the travel system.
- PA West approved
players playing up in the system.
- Don Snyder will get
a list to Tom Vater on the Flight 4 kids who played in the fall and
spring.
- U11 Girls to have
two teams.
- U12 boys will be
arranged by Tom Saffer.
- U11 Girls will go to
two U12 B teams.
PR/Fundraising –
- All Riverhound
Tickets were distributed to Flights.
- Matt Scott is
working on Picture Day.
- Dave Conley reported
that everyone had a good time at the Riverhounds game and there was more
discussion.
- Amo from the
Riverhounds will be at Player Appreciation Day on May 29,
2006.
- Park
Avenue has been
reserved for Player Appreciation Day and the kids will get refreshments at
the game. Flight four will come over after there Flight is done that
morning.
- Bill Harvey will
check into getting the same shorts for the travel players.
Player/Coach Development –
- Simon from MLS will be here through June 5,
2006.
- MLS Camp will be July 31st - August 4th
- Shoot to Score will
be June 19th – June 22nd.
- Riverhounds Camp
July 10th – July 13th at Village Green 9 am – noon.
Flights –
- Summer Camp flyers
have been sent out.
- Flights 1, 2, 3 will
have a summer session beginning June 13, 2006 to July 25, 2006. It will be on Tuesdays from 630PM to 8PM. The rainout day will be Thursday of the
rained out Tuesday session.
- Flight 4 will be
having a Tournament the last 2 weeks of the Spring Session.
- On Monday’s from 6pm – 7:30pm Simon will be Teaching U-10 Players.
- Flight 3 and other
flights were encouraged to attend these sessions.
Fields –
§
Some work was
started on Millennium Field.
§
Gary Lafever is
disappointed about the amount of progress getting done on Millennium.
§
Park
Avenue will start on concession
stand after June 19, 2006.
Equipment –
- Ed Emmett to get a
count on equipment.
- Jack ordered more
flight shirts for upcoming season.
- There was a request
for pumps for the soccer balls
- Motion to buy shorts
was tabled until we get a price.
Community Liaison –
- Russ asked Tom Vater if we were going to donate
equipment. There was discussion to have the girl scouts help collect the
equipment.
- We will have to follow up with the lady
coordinating the collection of equipment.
Website -
- Changes were made to
minutes and posted on website.
- Referees information
will be sent out on website.
- Jim Huber is ready
to take over the running of the website.
Old Business –
- The Horvath family has donated money to the
school for the new high school stadium score board.
New Business –
- Relay for life will be serving coffee and
donuts at the Flights games.
- Bethel Park bought four Portable Defibrillators, and need
people to be trained on how to use them. There will be an E Mail sent out
about the equipment.
Mark Vescovi motioned that
the meeting be adjourned. Russ Spicuzza
seconded. Meeting adjourned at 9:30 PM by Mark Vescovi.

Next meeting will be June 13, 2006 at 8:00 pm in Caucus Room.
Travel is on the way, so please note the new start
time.
