BETHEL PARK SOCCER ASSOCIATION

Board Meeting – April 11, 2006

Bob Monte, Vice-President of the Bethel Park Soccer Association (BPSA) (substituting for Tom Vater, President), called the meeting to order at 8:07 PM in the Caucus Room of the Bethel Park Municipal Building. Also present were Dave Conely, Jim Huber, Jim Rhoades, Don Snyder, Mark Vescovi, Matt Scott, Dan Saffer and Bill Harvey.

Secretary’s Report: The minutes were posted on the website, and distributed at the meeting. Dave Conely motioned to accept the minutes and Jim Huber seconded. Motion passed.

Treasurer’s Report: Jack Kun not present at the meeting.  He will update us at the meeting in May.

President’s Report:

Bob read the following notes from Tom Vater

§         Attended AGM meeting on March 25, 2006.  Meeting was poorly run.  Budget reports that were inaccurate.  Controversial election procedures that favored incumbents.  Poor Committee Reports.  Extremely long at 3 hours.  Dues remain at $10.00, but there is a surcharge of $25.oo per travel team, that will increase our expenses for each travel player by $2.00 per player.  Really a disincentive to form new teams in the spring.  Also, a poorly presented method of on-line registration was tabled on vote when the board did not give enough information about costs and benefits.

§         I haven’t seen any work at Millennium yet.  Gary Lafever was out of the office all week, so I don’t know what the hang-up is.  His office still claims that the project will be done.  I will follow-up.

§         If Don Saffer isn’t here, I’m waiting for more info for Kicks for Cancer program this spring.  We were one of two organizations (the other being Monroeville) recognized for having this program and raising money in 2005.

§         Sadly, the girl scouts decided not to sell coffee and donuts at the flights, sorry.  Also the Elks don’t have a permanent chairman yet for the soccer shoot.  They should have one by May.  They may have to do it in conjunction with the Community Picnic like last year.

§         Once again, please post your schedules on the web-site.  It’s not confidential information.  Please add as soon as possible.

Committees:

Registration - As of today’s date there are:

§         Don Snyder will be running registration table on May 24th from 7 to 8:30 pm for Fall 2006 in Council Chambers.

§         Volunteers for registration are Jim Rhoades, Jim Huber and Bob Monte

Communications –

  • Don Snyder put an article in the May School News that will come out the first several days in May for the Fall Registration Session.
  • Don Snyder will be making up a flyer for registration that will be passed out the last 2 weeks of the Spring Session.

Referees –

  • Tom Vater sent a report that said that Alan and Tom worked to reduce the confusion with the new system.  The most common complaint is that several referees seem to have most weeks while others have few or none.  The assignments for flights were originally passed out evenly, but we have had so many requests from referees because of conflicts (especially cup players) that when we fill in the gap with available referees, the same one’s seem to appear more often.  But we are looking into it.
  • Thanks to Mark Vescovi for setting up the web-page with referee names and phone numbers.  We are working to expand that on the web-site this coming month.

 Travel Commissioner & Registrar –

  • Bob Monte is trying to get a U-10 Boys travel team together.
  • Ray Conway finished registering the 13 teams.  Dual rosters for girls on U-11 and U-12.
  • Winzek’s team lost 2 players and has been running very thin.  Unfortunately we cannot add to the roster since it is 2 weeks into the season.
  • Any suggestions for coaches for U-10 this fall?  We need to identify them and start publicizing try-outs.

PR/Fundraising –

  • Jim Huber is working on Community Day.
  • Matt Scott is working on Picture Day.  Bob Monte will give Matt e-mail about pictures and arrangements.  Redford photography did pictures in the Fall of 2005.  Discussion followed.  Fall Travel pictures could be complicated – more discussion.
  • Matt Scott will be handling Uniroyal Tire flyers.
  • The Riverhounds Game will be handled by Dave Conely.  Dave got a check from Jack Kun for 100 tickets for flight 3 only.

Player/Coach Development –

  • Dave Conely will have Simon staying at his house until 4/23/06.  Bill Harvey will be coordinating the rest of Simon’s stay.

  • On Monday’s from 6pm7:30pm Simon will be Teaching U-10 Players.
  • Flight 3 and other flights were encouraged to attend these sessions.

 Fields –

§   Tom Boss was out but Bill Harvey stated that playing on the fields in the bad weather caused some damage but the week off should permit them to be in good shape when flights start up again

§    Tom put nets on the two old goals at Ben Franklin this week.  Sand bags were moved to anchor them down.

§    Is JV football building their snack bar yet at Park Avenue Field?

Equipment –

New Business –

  • Dave Conely received complaint from a parent wanting to know where their money was going.  Discussion followed on possibly putting something on the web-site about breakdown of fees and costs.
