Board Meeting – March 14, 2006

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Tom Vater, President of the Bethel Park Soccer Association, (BPSA) called the meeting to order at 7:09 PM in the Caucus Room of the Bethel Park Municipal Building. Also present were Dave Conely, Jim Huber, Jack Kun, Jim Rhoades, Don Snyder, Tom Boss, Ray Conway, Ed Emmett, Russ Spicuzza, Bob Monte, Mark Vescovi, Matt Scott, Bill Wolf, Bruce Barron and Bill Harvey.

 

Secretary’s Report: The minutes were posted on the website, and distributed at the meeting. Tom Vater motioned to accept the minutes, and Russ Spicuzza seconded. Motion passed.

 

Treasurer’s Report: Jack reported that our balance was $33,679.81.

 

President’s Report: 

§         Tom Vater suggested putting the travel schedule on the website.  He also mentioned that the flight commissioners should contact their kids for the season.

§         The Elks Club is going to have a shoot for soccer; the date is to be determined.

§         Tom reminded everyone that there is a coach’s clinic set for March 26th for all coaches.

§         There are 30 new travel players and Tom would like the other players to help them and make them feel welcomed.

§         Tom will not be at the April board meeting; Bob Monte will be in charge of the April Board Meeting.

 

Committees:

 

Registration - As of today’s date there are:

§         451 kids registered for flights

§         Last year 475 for the spring so we are down 24.

§         There was 425 in Flights and 185 in travel in the fall.

§         Don Snyder stated that the schedules will be sent out to all commissioners this week.

 

Communications –

  • Fall Registration will be on May 24, 2006; 7 – 8:30 pm in council chambers.
  • Registration Form will be changed for the fall.

 

Referees –

  • Tom Vater gave report – there are 15 new referees for the spring session.
  • On 3/25/06 Tom will meet at Village Green at 9:30 am with officials regarding the upcoming season.
  • Allen Gruntz is the scheduler for the Referee.
  • A suggestion was made to put referee schedule on the website for flights and Travel.

 

 

 Travel Commissioner & Registrar –

  • Four kids are not registered.
  • No exceptions were made for a U-11 player to play so 3 girls had to play in U-12. 
  • Russ suggested that we write a letter to PA West about the exception; further discussion followed.

 

PR/Fundraising –

  • Upcoming Events:  Uniroyal Soccer Ball Giveaway. Picture Day, Community Day and Shoot to Score
  • Dave Conley talked to the Riverhounds about an upcoming game that flight 3 players could attend.  Contact person for Riverhounds is Alex Spiro.  Jack will send the check for the tickets.  Bob Monte suggested the May 6th 7pm date and it was agreed upon.

 

Player/Coach Development –

  • Bill Harvey E-mailed James Hippett regarding Simon to come back for player development.  Simon is to come in on March 26, 2006 and Bill Harvey will get schedule for Simon’s accommodations.

 

Flights –

  • On March 26, 2006 from 1:30 – 4:00 pm at BPHS gym, there will be a coach’s clinic for flights 1 through 3.  Bill Harvey will not be able to attend.  Others will assist in the training.
  • Flight 4 will be an evening session with Simon.  There will be another session at Ben Franklin from 10:45 to 12:30 on March 25th.
  •  

Fields –

§         The nets from Millennium Field will be moved to Ben Franklin on Thursday, March 16th

§         Neal Armstrong has lacrosse nets and lines painted on their field.

§         All schedules and practices will be put on the web site this week.

  

Equipment –

  • Jack ordered shirts in February and the manufacturer wanted to know what font to use on shirts.
  • Jack will set up time for commissioners to pick up shirts.

 

Community Liaison

  • The school board was set to send out bids for a new stadium field.  More discussion followed.  Russ stated he wanted to continue to get donations for people who needed equipment.  Suggestions were made for the collection to take place May 6th and May 13th – Barrels are needed.

 

Website -

  • Nothing new to report.
  • Mark continues to update web-site.

  

Old Business

  • Player appreciation will possibly be the 1st weekend in June or May 13th.

 

New Business –

  • Girl scouts are inquiring about selling coffee and donuts.  Will follow-up at the next meeting.

 

Tom Vater motioned that the meeting be adjourned.  Meeting adjourned at 8:15 pm by Tom Vater.

  • March 25, 2006 – Referee Meeting 9:00 am at Village Green
  • March 26, 2006 – First game of Travel Soccer
  • March 26, 20061:30 – 4:00 pm for Flights 1 through 3
  • April 1, 2006 – First game of Flights Soccer
  • April 9, 2006 – Hershey Games at 4pm (Track and Field events at the High School Stadium.
  • May 24, 2006 – Fall Registration:  7pm8:30 pm in Council Chambers

 

Next meeting will be April 11, 2006 at 8:00 pm in Caucus Room.
