Board Meeting – October 11,
|
|
Russ Spicuzza, President of the Bethel Park Soccer Association (BPSA), called the meeting to order at 8:18pm in the Caucus Room of the Bethel Park Municipal Building. Also present were Ed Emmitt, Bill Harvey, Jack Kun, Bob Monte, Tom Vater, and Mark Vescovi.
Secretary’s Report: The minutes from the September meeting were submitted. Bill and Bob motioned for their approval. Motion passed.
Treasurer’s Report: Jack stated that our account balance is $7869.42. There is about $30,000 outstanding from fall 2005/spring 2006 registration. Gary Lafever has not sent the payment to us yet, though both flight and travel numbers have been balanced since September. All IRS tax documents have been submitted in June.
President’s Report: Russ discussed several items. He received a letter from Citizen Bank concerning soccer ball distribution. He also received a letter from PA West encouraging referee recertification and referee awards. Finally, he showed a flyer about an indoor league for winter in Elizabeth.
Russ also wanted to thank the girls travel teams for helping as ball girls at the girl’s varsity games. Thanks also to the boys travel teams for helping at the boy’s varsity games.
Also, we have the keypad to the scoreboard at Park Ave if anyone wants to use it.
Vice-President’s Report: Mark talked about sponsoring a Coaches Appreciation Day at the end of the season. It would be for both Flight and Travel coaches, and their assistants. After much discussion about date, venue, and theme, Mark volunteered to check menu prices for a buffet lunch at several local restaurants. Russ would check the schedule for the availability of the community center. Jack would put together a flyer and distribute to coaches. The event will be either Nov 12 or 13.
Committees:
Registration- Tom stated that he is completing the registration form for the spring session. Tom motioned that we add a $20 late fee for registration after the deadline. After discussion, the motion failed.
He also presented a request for refund from Colleen Poploski from the recreation department. The request came after the second weekend of play. The request was denied.
Communication- no report
PR/Fundraising- Bob reported that pictures are being distributed to flights this week. Travel coaches can pick their up at flight 4 or at his house.
The reimbursement from Redfield photography is on the way.
Flights- There was a general discussion about using Mike G and the varsity boys for flight 4. Most board members liked this idea, but knew that it was impractical to start here in the fall. The same program could be used with Kelly M and the girls in flight 1.
There was also discussion about how well Simon and MLS are working with flight 4 boys on Thursday.
Player Development- Shoot to Score fall programs are on PA West website.
Coach Development- none
Travel Commissioner & Registrar- Coaches should start thinking about the spring session.
Referees- Re-certification is November 15, 2005 at BPHS from 6:30-9:30pm. No date yet for the new referee’s course in February.
Website- Mark handed out the update on web site usage. Website hits were up in September to over 14000. .
Old Business- None
New Business- Tom sold new Bethel Park T-shirts at community day and to the teams. It went well. We sold 60 out of 72 shirts. We also sold two dozen hats, most of the soccer bags, and all the soccer balls. We may need to consider re-ordering soccer balls.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:45pm. The next meeting is November 8, 2005 at 7pm. The season is over, so please note the time shift.
Respectfully Submitted
Tom Vater
Secretary
