Board Meeting – August 9,
|
|
Russ Spicuzza, President of the Bethel Park Soccer Association (BPSA), called the meeting to order at 8:20pm in the Caucus Room of the Bethel Park Municipal Building. Also present were Tom Boss, Bill Harvey, Jack Kun, Tom Vater, and Mark Vescovi. Ed Emmett and Bob Monte gave proxy votes to Russ for the meeting.
Secretary’s Report: Minutes from June meeting were distributed by Tom. They will be posted on the website. There were no corrections at this time.
Treasurer’s Report: Jack reported that our balance was $19318.72. We ended the fiscal year $3206 above last year. We haven’t received any funds from the Rec Dept for this current fall session.
President’s Report: Russ talked about the district presidents meeting in July. Our district president wants to have a district wide tournament in October for flight players. It will be called the America Cup, and he hopes it will be at South Park. There was also discussion about the disclosure forms for coaches and playing up forms for U-9 players or other players rostered more than two age group from their current age. Nick also talked about parent agreement forms. These would state the behavior of parents during flights and games. We should look into them.
Other items discussed at the presidents meeting were U-11 playing up, possible 8v8 for U-12 girls this fall, and rule changes.
Mark Vescovi also commented that the Soccer Kicks for Kids for TopSoccer will probably be cancelled for lack of teams signed up to play. This was at least the case for the u-12 boys age group.
Committee Reports:
Registration: Tom reported that we had 181 travel players (up about 30 from last fall) and 435 flight players (down about 50) for the fall session. Registration is now closed for both. Don Snyder is working on flight breakdowns at this time.
Flights start September 3rd (Labor Day weekend). Travel starts Sept 11th.
Registrar: Tom met with the district registrar already before the scheduling meeting. He will be meeting with him again this upcoming Sunday, and hopes to finish registering the teams. Please get any outstanding documents or additional pictures/ forms to him ASAP. Also, he needs all the coaches’ disclosure forms.
Communications: No report
PR Fundraising: Bob picked Redford Photography for out pictures this year. Flight pictures will be the 3rd or 4th weekend of flights. Travel pictures will be Sept 18th. Bob will contact the travel coaches about picture times.
Community Day is September 10, 2005 at the high school campus. Bob and Carol Vater are working on the menu and the booth. As in the past, each travel team will need to provide 4 hours of adult volunteers to man the booth during the day.
Uniroyal tire promotion through Bruce Brother Tires will be September 3rd thru October 3rd, 2005. Please patronize this loyal sponsor. Bob will pass out a flyer at the beginning of flights.
Flights: Bill updated us on flight commissioners:
Flight 1- Bill Harvey
Flight 2- Dave Conley
Flight 3- James Rhoades
Flight 4- Don Snyder
Flight 5G- Jeff Moad/ Tom Boss
Flight 5B- open.
Bill discussed flight 5B and the difficulty of getting a commissioner. He doesn’t want to utilize MLS hours covering this flight. He also was wondering how many players were even registered for that flight. Tom will email him numbers this week as to how many players there are. He will continue to try to recruit a commissioner for that flight.
Bill also restated Jeff Moad’s request that the U-10 girls travel teams support the Flight 5G program. Jeff is looking for some coaching help.
Player Development: Bill gave a recap of the summer soccer program that he and Stan organized. Both Bill and Stan should be commended for their work in organizing this program, which was very successful for its first year.
Bill will be buying MLS books (about 15-16) for flight coaches. He will organize a coach’s clinic for flight coaches on August 27, 2005 at Village Green. It will be a coaches/child camp, so bring your child to the coach’s clinic.
Russ also talked about the MLS report from Simon.
Fields: We will be playing at Park Avenue this fall. However, they are still trying to grow some grass, so please use Park Avenue sparingly, and when conditions are good. It will open up to regular use later in August.
Tom needs schedules as soon as you have them for home games to make a master list. He also needs request for practice times and days, and what fields you would like. With thirteen teams, we will all be sharing fields for practices.
Equipment: Jack has ordered socks, coach’s shirts, etc for the beginning of the season. He still needs jerseys from last season from Rich C, Stan S, and Terry B. Please get your shirts returns as soon as possible.
Jack also ordered Flight shirts. Filling in the gaps from previous orders, he was able to save about $1200 on equipment over last year.
Website: Mark handed out an updated sheet of website usage.
Community Liaison: Russ discussed football spearheading a fundraising effort to add more seating to Park Ave. He also discussed Dick’s coaches’ boxes that will be distributed to each coach soon. Dick’s coupons will also be handed out.
