BETHEL PARK SOCCER ASSOCIATION

Board Meeting – March 8, 2005

Russ Spicuzza, President of the Bethel Park Soccer Association (BPSA), called the meeting to order at 7:15pm in the Caucus Room of the Bethel Park Municipal Building. Also present were Rich Chongaway, Bill Harvey, Jack Kun, Bob Monte, Ed Robinson, Dan Saffer, and Tom Vater

Secretary’s Report: The minutes were posted on the website. Several members mentioned that they were not able to access the minutes. We will ask Mark V to check into this, and post the minutes in the near future.

Treasurer’s Report: Jack reported that our balance was $23037.23. We have enough money to finance the spring session. Registration for travel teams has been paid.

We have not received any money from the Recreation Department yet for this current spring session.

President’s Report: Russ stated that the annual PA West meeting was at California University on March 20th. He is looking for another person to go with him to the afternoon’s program. The luncheon is at noon, and the meeting at 3-4pm. PA West is loosing money, so they probably have allot to talk about and vote on.

Russ thanked everyone who attended the planning session in February. The four main points discussed were:

                                                Do survey of membership

                                                Improve communications

                                                Parent involvement

                                                More training of coaches.

Committee Reports:

Registration: Tom stated that registration is closed to all residents except those new families moving into the township. We had 478 registered flight players, and 158 registered travel players. We were down about 10 flight players from last year. No new travel teams. Baseball was also down this spring.

Communications: Next school new will be May. There were calls to distribute a booklet at the beginning of soccer. Tom will try to reprint the booklet, but would need information, especially about flight times and commissioners for Bill Harvey, before he could print the booklet.

PR/ Fundraising: Bob discussed the upcoming Bethel Park night at the Riverhounds game on May 14, 2005. Tickets will be distributed starting with flight 3 on the second week of the season. If there are enough tickets, they will also be available to travel teams. The tickets are coming, and Bob will contact those who will help distribute them. Game time is 7:05pm against Northern Virginia. Bob will also contact several of the teams to be part of the half-time program.

Bob also received payment from the photographer for pictures in the fall.

Additionally, he will be attending the community day meeting in the next several weeks.

Bob is looking for the BPSA logo on disc.

Player/Coach Development- no report

Flights: Bill announced that the coaches’ clinic on March 19th was cancelled.

Tuesday and Thursday nights will be for the U-9 players. Probably Tuesday nights for boys and Thursday nights for girls. Hopefully, they can play at Ben Franklin. Bill will be in touch with Tom for fields.

Coaching books are not available from MLS until mid April.

Bill will try to contact the varsity girl and boy coaches about sending varsity players to those flights.

Bill said that MLS didn’t know who would be our PDO yet.

Travel Commissioner/Registrar: Tom stated that he had his initial meeting with the district registrar. We have to recard Acker’s team due to lamination. The registrar also rejected Moad’s cards because the pictures were misaligned. Tom hopes to make his last trip to the registrar on March 20th. Please have all outstanding cards/ birth certificates/ and rosters to him before then.

The scheduling meeting for the spring session is March 13th at 2pm at California University Student Union. All teams playing below Division 1/A need to send a representative. Tom will have any stickered rosters that haven’t already been distributed at the meeting for the coaches.

Referees: We have 16 new referees from Bethel Park at the clinic. There were a total of 47 people in attendance. We are missing a power cord from the room.

We are still waiting for the final list of licensed referees for the year from PA West. Brian Carbonara is scheduling the referees again, and Tom is meeting with him later in the week. Tom has also talked to Nick Vuchenich about evaluating referees.

Fields: Tom Boss sent a report. Neil is a mess, and needs two nets. Ben and Millennium need a net each, and he is checking on Village. He also needs a new padlock.

He is working with Lafever and the fields coalition on field times.

Equipment: Jack stated that Tom Boss is working with a local store to be our provider. They will have bags, t-shirts and hoodies with Bethel Park and Bethel Park Soccer logos. No samples to show us yet.

Sand bags for goals are in, as are the T-shirts for flights.
