Board Meeting – February 8,
|
|
Mark Vescovi, Vice-President of the Bethel Park Soccer Association (BPSA), call the meeting to order at 7:09pm in the Caucus Room of the Bethel Park Municipal Building. Also present were Tom Boss, Rich Chongaway, Mike Hammer, Bill Harvey, Jack Kun, Bob Monte, Jeff Moad, Rich Salvini, Stan Sbei, and Tom Vater.
Secretary’s Report: The minutes from the January meeting were posted on the website. Corrections were made to the spelling of names.
Treasurer’s Report: Jack reported that our balance was $26,840.93. He signed a contract with MLS for training and sporting essentials. If we do $20,000 in business with them, we earn 14 hours free time.
Jack also reintroduced the budget for the 2005-2006 season. The discussion focused on our fees, with three options presented: a) Leave as is; b) Add $7 to travel and subtract $5 from flights to more be in line with our costs; or c) just drop the flight by $5. There was much discussion, including comparing our cost to other sport programs, and the impact the change in prices would have on registration, especially travel. The general consensus was to table the motion. Bob first, Tom seconds, and the motion to table passed.
President’s Report: Mark introduced Rich Salvini, assistant coach to the Riverhounds. Rich also has worked in our program years before. Rich passed out literature and pamphlets concerning the new ownership of the Riverhounds, and the direction the team was headed. The are playing in Division 2 with USL, and their new home is the Wild Things Stadium in Washington, PA.
He described the type of programs they sponsor, including camps, and school appearances. They can also arrange for players to come to our games or flights. Their staff is willing to help with flights curriculum and running practices.
Committee Reports:
Registration: Tom stated that Early Bird registration was over February 4th. We had 137 travel players registered. It looks like all the team will be returning. The only teams who need some additional players are Stan’s U-13 girls and Rich C. U-13/14 boys. There are 372 players registered for flights. Flights end March 4th.
Communication: Registration notice is on BP TV, and in the Almanac. Bill Harvey sent out extra notices to flight 1 & 2 players from the fall.
PR/Fundraising: Bob showed the flyer from Uniroyal pertaining to the national soccer winner. We will try to post it on the website.
Bob announced that Bethel Park Soccer Night at Riverhounds will be Saturday, May 14th at 7:05pm at Falconi Field. Bob will draw up plans for distributing tickets.
Also, he received a $500 check from the photographer from last falls picture.
Player/Coach Development: Stan sends out information concerning recent tournaments in the area, including West Virginia. He also handed out flyers concerning Shoot to Score Spring program at Pitt.
Please look on the PA West website for information concerning E license courses. South Park’s is soon.
Our coaching clinic for Flights will be either March 12 or 19. We are still waiting to see if gym space is available. If not, Bill will have the session outdoors. He will contact MLS for a trainer.
Flights: MLS is going to be at flight 4, 5B, or 5G during the morning. They will be at flight 1 in the afternoon.
Flight 5G needs 4 color shirts for the session, and also 2 referees each week from 10-11am.
Goal sand bags and Velcro were ordered. Bill will talk to Bethel Park Maintenance (Segrimos?) about the field conditions.
Commissioners are concerned about the lack of training tapes at the library.
Fields: Tom asked that all travel coaches request fields for the spring session. Please to that as soon as possible. Lacrosse will be on Village Green until 6pm. Park Avenue is available for games only. Nets have been ordered for Neil.
Tom also updated us on his discussions with Signature Apparel. They are willing to be our supplier for several different products. Maybe we can have 4-5 different items that we offer. They can be on the website.
We discussed have soccer rebounding walls at Village and Millennium.
Referees: The new referee course will be Feb 19th & 20th at the high school. We have about 15 Bethel Park and 30 other people registered. We will hand out whistles to those attending the course.
Website: Mark updated several aspects of the website this past month, including referees, meeting times, minutes, and other info.
Community Liaison: No report.
OLD BUSINESS: We again talked about the planning session on February 22, 2005 at the Community Center at 6:30-8:30pm. Russ will be planning the session, and can send out an agenda by next week.
NEW BUSINESS: None.
Next meeting: The next meeting will be March 8, 2005, at 7pm in the Caucus Room at the municipal building.
Respectfully Submitted,
Tom Vater
