BETHEL PARK SOCCER ASSOCIATION

Board Meeting – August 10, 2004

 

Russ Spicuzza, President of the Bethel Park Soccer Association (BP)SA), called the meeting to order at 8:05pm in the Caucus Room of the Bethel Park Municipal Building. Also present were Tom Boss, Terry Bove, Rich Chongaway, Jack Kun, Bob Monte, Stan Sbei, Tom Vater, and Mark Vescovi.

 

Secretary’s Report: The June minutes were posted on the website prior to the meeting and distributed at the meeting. There were no additions or corrections. They were approved.

 

Treasurer’s Report: Jack Kun reported that our balance was $15644.61. We are getting about $32,000 from rec. Referees were reimbursed for certification fees from the spring already. The IRS report was done.

 

President’s Report: Russ attended the South District Mid-year report. Several housekeeping issues were mentioned. Classic players outside of PA West sponsored teams do not have to be listed as classic players anymore. SAGYCL’s name has been changed to SDGIL, with Chuck Nagel from Pleasant Hills servicing as coordinator. Always check the South District calendar on the PA West website for upcoming dates.

 

Russ mentioned that Bethel Park did not have any red card in the past session. He reminded that it is important to stress to referees that they never touch anyone during the games. Russ is serving on the red card appeals committee,

 

Part of that meeting also focused on updating several areas of our organization with PA West, including maps to fields, and bylaws. There was discussion on the bylaws, and Mark Vescovi will schedule a meeting for updating the bylaws that he had distributed previously.

 

There was also a discussion on net safety, especially the nets at u-10 Millennium.

 

Referee changes include friendly games when a team was short players, mandatory wearing of shirts, and throw ins permitted on either team substitution.

 

Committee Reports:

Communication: No report.

 

Registration: All deadlines have passed.

 

Registrar: Met with district registrar August 1st before scheduling meeting. Meeting again August 22nd. Please get all materials to me before August 18th to finish your teams.

           

Travel Commissioner: We have recruited Tim Gallagher and Marty Schindehette as U-10 boy coaches. Also, Mark Acker and Bob Keibler are planning to be the U-10 girls coaches. We will have 11 travel teams plus SDGIL team.

 

Referees: Brian Carbonara is the assignor. Tom Vater attended the PA West Assignor’s course.

 

PR/Fundraising: Bob Monte reported on several upcoming events. Community Day is September 11, 2004. Carol Vater is running the booth. Bob will be out of town, but will be coordinating the volunteers for the booth. Each travel team should find four volunteers to work. We will be having soccer man and selling hoagies and soccer equipment.

 

Picture Day is September 18 (flights) and 19 (travel). The flyers will be handed out with soccer jerseys. The Uniroyal Tire promotion campaign begins the beginning of September, also. Those flyers will also be distributed with jerseys.

 

Fields: Tom Boss announced the following field assignments. U-10- Millennium; U-11- Neil Armstrong; U-12- Park Ave or Millennium; U-14- Park Ave; SAGYCL- Millennium; U-40 & Cup- Ben Franklin. Also, Flight 1 & 2 & 3- Village; Flight 4 & 5B- Millennium, and Flight 5G- Neil Armstrong. All coaches should contact Tom Boss with their home travel schedules so he can assign times. Also, contact Tom for practice times and fields.

 

Flights: No report

 

Coach/Player Development: Stan reported the following attendance numbers for summer camps: Riverhounds- 57.  Shoot to Score- 35. MLS- 25, plus 2 team camps.

 

There will be a coach clinic for flight coaches on August 22, 2004 at Village Green from 12-6pm (a Y-license course). This is for U-6 to U-8. It will consist of 3 hours of instruction, and 3 hours with player interaction. He will contact Bill Harvey for players.

 

Also, goalkeeper practice will start up later in the season.

 

Equipment: Jack will distribute the jerseys after August 22nd. There was discussion about net safety, and it was motioned and seconds that Jack and Tom Boss look into goals for the U-10 field, and purchase what was necessary. Motion passed.

 

Community Liaison: Terry Bove handed out coach kits (24 cases in all) and equipment coupons donated by Dicks. Terry will write a letter of appreciation.  The coalition is currently quite district wide. No new information of the bond issue for district improvements.

 

Also, any player wearing a BPSA soccer jersey will have free admission to the varsity games at the high school.

 

Website: Mark handed out this months update. Coaches, don’t forget to put your schedule on the website.

 

Old Business: Referee reimbursements were tabled until the next meeting.

New Business: None

 

Upcoming Dates: September 4, 2004- First weekend of flights

                            September 11, 2004- Community Day (Flight 1,2, & 3 at High School)

                            September 12, 2004- First Day of travel

 

Monthly Meeting: The next meeting will be September 14, 2004 at 8pm at the Municipal Building.

 

Upon motion made and seconded, the meeting was adjourned at 9:15pm
