Russ Spicuzza, President of the Bethel Park Soccer Association (BPSA), called the meeting to order at 7:12pm in the council Caucus Room of the Bethel Park Municipal Building. Also present were Mark Acker, Tom Boss, Rich Chongaway, Ed Emmett, Jim Groesch, Bill Harvey, Jack Kun, Bob Monte, Stan Sbei, Tom Vater, Mark Vescovi, and Eric Young.
Secretary’s Report: The February meeting minutes were posted on the web site prior to the meeting. No corrections were submitted. The February minutes were approved.
Treasurer’s Report: Jack Kun reported that our balance was $20,776. All travel teams need to return the old uniforms to get the final $400 payment.
President’s Reports: Russ stated that Terry Bove was attending the field’s meeting. This group will be attending the March 24th School Board meeting to present their case for improving athletic fields in the district. The new scoreboard is not constructed yet.
Recently, Russ had communicated with Gary Lafever concerning fields. Gary requested that Lacrosse and Soccer use their best judgement on field conditions. We should check with the rec department before we start practicing on the fields.
The AGM Meeting is on Sunday, March 14, 2004.
PA West fees went up this past fall, and will probably to up to $10 next year.
Committees:
Registration: Registration is closed. We do not expect any more travel or flight registrations. Totals were 168 for travel, and 467 for flights. .
Next registration for fall was May 26, 2004.
Communications: Booklets will be out before flights start. Tom will distribute to the flight commissioners.
Registrar: Tom registered all the teams at the beginning of March. Currently, only one additional player needs registered. Please contact Tom for any changes.
Travel Commissioners: Tom reported that only five players registered were not placed on a team (U-16 boys). They will receive refunds. All the girls were placed on the teams. Tom and Jeff will start looking for U-10 coaches for the fall once the flights program starts. Anyone interested should contact them.
Referees: We had 47 people take the course. Fifteen were Bethel players. Ed, Tom, and Bethany will have a meeting at the end of March for all referees.
Each flights game will have two referees; a returning referee and a new referee. We hope this helps train the new referees.
Website: Mark is updating Board members, travel coaches, and the referee page in the near future. Hits on the site have been steady, but we should see an increase once the session starts.
PR/Fundraising: Bob is planning Bethel Park Day at a Riverhounds game. There was discussion about which day, how many tickets, and how to distribute them. After discussion, Bob announced he would plan May 30, 2004 as Bethel Park Day. BPSA would purchase 100 tickets for the day, and distribute them to the players in Flight 3. He will have more details at the next meeting.
Player Development: Stan needs a mailing list of those who registered this session for summer camps. Tom V will help get this. We will use our MLS PDO on Monday- Flight 4; Tuesday- U-10 boys; Wednesday- U-10 boys, Thursday- U-10 Girls, and Saturday- Flight 3,2 & 1. Jack gave the information to Tom to contact Gary Overton at MLS for the arrangements.
Coach Development: Clinic for flights coaches will be March 20, 2004. Stan will run the program.
Flights: Bill Harvey said that the commissioners should either have their list, or would be getting them from Don Snyder shortly. Bill will be contacting commissioners and coaches about the coaching clinic. The referees requested that flight 4 and 3 have clearly marked boundaries for the referees.
Fields: Tom Boss is looking at putting new nets on several fields. Please send your home schedules for Tom as soon as possible after the your scheduling meeting. Fields have already been lined.
Equipment: Jack said the new jerseys should be here in the next week. Jack will send out an email when there are here. Old jerseys should be turned in. He is trying to get new first aid kits from the St Clair Foundation at the hospital. He is ordering a dozen shirts of each country for flights.
Old Business: Edgebrook Field has been reserved for Sundays from 12pm-9pm for March. If we need this field for play in the season, we need to reserve it by April 1, 2004.
