Board Meeting – February 10
|
|
Russ Spicuzza, President of the Bethel Park Soccer Association (BPSA), called the meeting to order at 7:05pm in the Council Caucus Room of the Bethel Park Municipal Building. Also present were Mark Acker, Tom Boss, Terry Bove, Rich Chongaway, Ed Emmett, Tim Gallagher, Bill Harvey, Jack Kun, Jeff Moad, Bob Monte, Dave Porco, Stan Sbei and Tom Vater.
Secretary’s Report: The January meeting minutes were posted on the web site prior to the meeting. No corrections were submitted. The January minutes were approved.
Treasurer’s Report: Jack Kun reported that our balance was $22823.05.
President’s Report: Russ discussed the District President’s Meeting on January 14, 2004 at Carlynton High School. The topics ranged from registration procedures for the teams to each club having a referee assignor to the new Centers of Excellence. He also said that the district is trying to have formal pre and post game instructions for coaches and referees, and that Dave Pcolinski could be contacted for more information. They also discussed SAGSYL league.
The scheduling meeting for Division B, C, 2, & 3 is March 14th, 2004, at 2:00pm at California University Union. Coaches must have a stickered roster to attend the scheduling meeting (remember Natalie at the last meeting).
Vice-President’s Report: Mark is continuing to work on documenting the bylaws, developing a coach’s guidebook (travel and in-house), and documenting board positions and association positions.
Committees:
Registration: The table registration went well. About 60 players registered that night. Thanks to Russ, Stan and Mark for their help. Registrations so far include 391 flights and 138 travel players. Last year, we have a total of about 490 flight and 12 travel teams, so we are about on pace with last year at this time.
Last day of travel registration is February 20th, and last day of travel registration is March 5th. Please spread the word.
Communications: The recreation department can print us mailing labels if we want to send out a mailing. Just give them some advance notice.
Registrar: Tom commented that he needs all new players cards and birth certificates, and all returning players cards by February 21st. He also needs all old stickered rosters. That is the district registrar’s requirement.
He distributed list of those players already registered, and discussed the new teams forming. Dave Brahm is trying to form an older boys team, and Russ and Stan are each working on older girls teams. Dave Porco was working on a junior high girls team, but that might combine with Russ’ team.
Tom asked all the coaches to contact their old players, and find out whether they are playing or not. This will give him an idea of what teams need players, and what teams are set. He will be sending out weekly or bi-weekly reports until the end of registration.
Travel Commissioners: Jeff Moad and Tom are waiting until more players register to see if any players need to be shifted. They hope to find a team for every player.
They will wait until the spring season to start working on identifying coaches for next fall for U-10 teams.
Referees: The referee clinic is this Saturday from 9-5 on Saturday and Sunday at Bethel Park High School. Call Tom if you would like to attend. We have 24 prepaid, and about another 10 registered.
Some information about referee is on the website. Ed Emmett and Tom are planning a meeting in March with current and new referees to explain the policies, reimbursement, and scheduling procedures for the spring. Nothing has been finalized yet.
Website: Mark reported (via email) that he had updated several features on the website, including referee information, website hits, and links to the bylaws.
Community Liaison: Terry reported that the scoreboard is ordered, and will be delivered soon. We will have to pay our share soon.
There will be a meeting soon of all the recreation clubs who use fields. Also, Ben Franklin will be closed from now to August.
PR/Fundraising: Bob Monte will organize the Bethel Day at the Riverhounds event. It was discussed purchasing a block of tickets and distributing them to some of the lower flights kids to increase attendance and interest in soccer.
Russ received a check for $568.25 from Photo by James for the fall session.
Player Development: Stan reported the summer camps: Shoot to Score July 12-16; Riverhounds June 21-24; MLS August 2-6. All camps will be at Village Green. Flyers will be distributed during flights this spring, and Stan will work with Mark to get them on the website.
Coaching Development: Stan reported that there is a coaching clinic on Sunday, March 14th from 1-3pm at the Cost Center. There is also an upcoming Y-license course in Peters in March. Please check PA West website for other information.
He also congratulated Jeff Moad and Tom Vater for getting their E-license this past year.
Flights Commissioner Coordinator: Bill Harvey stated that the coaches’ clinic would be March 20, 2004 at IMS from 1-4pm. He was calling the flight commissioners about the end of February to spread the word. He plans on a MLS instructor.
Bill again gave some details about the flights program in the summer. Please contact Bill with any ideas or comments that you have.
Equipment: Jack said the new uniforms are ordered. He will announce when he is collecting the old uniforms at the next meeting. Some additional socks and shirts will be ordered for the spring.
Fields: Tom Boss reported that Ben Franklin would be closed this spring. We will play on Village Green, Neil Armstrong, Park Ave, and Millennium.
Game fields will be Millennium for U-10 and SAGSYL, Neil for U-11, and Park Ave for U-12 and up.
There was also discussion about visiting teams using the fields and practice space. Our teams always get preference. Tom will use his discretion about visiting teams.
