BETHEL PARK SOCCER ASSOCIATION

Parents/Coaches Meeting – October 14, 2003

The monthly meeting of the Bethel Park Soccer Association (BPSA) was called to order at 8:00pm in the Council Room of the Bethel Park Municipal Building. Present were Richard Chongaway, Jack Kun, Stan Sbei, Russ Spicuzza, Tom Vater, Theresa Vescovi.

Treasurer’s Report: Jack Kun advised of a current account balance of $26,686.80. Jack will contact Gary Lefever for final payment of proceeds from fall registration. The budget is completely in line with projected expenditures/receipts.  If any Association member would like a copy of the budget, please contact any Board member or email Jack directly.

Coach/Player Development: Stan Sbei noted that PA West is holding a “D” coaching license course in early January at Slippery Rock University. (January 2-4 and 9-11) Anyone interested can get more information at www.pawest-soccer.org .  Stan also advised that if any team would like help coaching or developing practices, Stan is available Mondays and Wednesdays.  He is willing to develop a goalkeeper training course during the winter if there is an interest.

In the spring, a possible “soccer coaching basics” course is in the works.  This would be for all parents and coaches of beginning soccer players.  More information will follow concerning details of this clinic.

Registration: Tom Vater advised that 63 travel players are pre-registered for spring and 154 are pre-registered for flights. Tom passed out spring registration deadlines.  Registration  begins on January 1, 2004 at the Recreation Department.  There will be open table registration on January 21st in Council Chambers.  Early bird registration ends February 6th.  Travel registration ends February 20th.  Flight registration ends March 5th.  Travel games could begin as soon as March 27-28.  Flights begin April 3-4.

PR/Fundraising: Russ Spicuzza advised that Bruce Brothers Tires will continue to honor the free soccer ball certificates into the foreseeable future.  Pictures will hopefully be distributed within the next two weeks.  Community Day went well.  Huge thanks go out to everyone that volunteered to work at the booth.  Special thanks go out to Tom and Carol Vater for bringing everything together and covering the booth.  Your help on that very difficult day was greatly appreciated!

Referees:  There is a recertification opportunity for referees at Upper St. Clair on November 15th from 9:00 to 1:00 and at Mt. Lebanon High School on December 6th, 1:00-4:30 pm. Please call Cheryl Mignogna at 412-856-8011 to register for any of the courses or go to pawest-soccer.org for more information.

Discussion was held on the need to have the flight referees blow the whistle more often during flight games.  Players will learn from the correction, rather than repeating mistakes.

Website:  Website will be updated for spring registration

Equipment: The team uniform jerseys will be recalled after the fall session.  New jerseys will be reissued for the spring.  It was noted that we have a surplus of black socks and should not order new black socks for the spring season.  Also, nets at Neil Armstrong and Millenium will need to be evaluated for the spring session.

Fields:  No report was available.

Monthly Meeting: The next Bethel Park Soccer Association meeting will be held at 7:00 PM on November 11, 2003, at the Municipal Building. EVERYONE IS WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND THE MEETINGS.

Upon motion made and seconded, the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully Submitted,

Theresa Vescovi
