Parents/Coaches Meeting – September
|
|
Terry Bove, President of the Bethel Park Soccer Association (BPSA), called the meeting to order at 7:15 P.M. in the Bethel Park Municipal Building. Also present were Mark Bowman, Bill Harvey, Jack Kun, Stan Sbei, Russ Spicuzza, Tom Vater, Mark Vescovi, Theresa Vescovi and Brian Wassel.
Secretary’s Report: The August meeting minutes were officially approved with the following changes: 1) Russ Spicuzza is the coach of the girls’ U-13/14 team, 2) Stan Sbei is in charge of organizing the ballgirls for the high school games, 3) the grant money that is available from PA West is $750.00 – Scott Talbott will come to the next meeting with several options for use of the grant money, and 4) Scott Talbott attended the Rec. Board meeting, not the Coalition meeting.
Treasurer’s Report: Jack Kun announced a balance of $3,870.00. The Association has not received our money for fall registration from the Recreation Department. Jack will get checks to each coach and commissioner for referees’ fees.
President’s Report: Terry Bove reported that a new SAGSYL team was recently formed. It will be coached by Jeff Moad. Terry discussed Community Day.
Registration: Mark Bowman advised that all fall travel and flight registration is finally finished. Travel registration was 179 – 12 teams. This was the first year that we had to turn kids away from playing travel soccer. A lengthy discussion was held on how to better change the registration system. Registration deadlines need to be changed and made firm. Agreement was made to change next fall’s registration methods. The BPSA may hold three registration sessions at the Municipal Building in early spring. Mark advised that he is looking for volunteers to work on registration for the spring, in order to train them as future Registrars for the BPSA. Anyone interested in serving as the BPSA Registrar should contact Terry Bove or Mark Bowman immediately.
PR/Fundraising: Russ passed out the Uniroyal free ball certificates to the flights and to all the travel teams. We will display a sign at our Community Day booth, letting people know of Uniroyal’s sponsorship of our program. Pictures will be taken the weekend of September 21/22.
Community Day: Russ Spicuzza advised that we have had a very good response to the request for volunteers for the BPSA booth at Community Day. Many new parents have signed up to help out. Flights 1, 2 and 3 will play on the High School practice field. PLEASE NOTE: Flights 4 and 5 will remain at Millennium (boys) and Neil Armstrong (girls). The Association will also raffle off a Bethel Park soccer ball with the proceeds to go to the TOP Soccer program.
Equipment: No report was available.
Web Site: Mark Vescovi brought his laptop and an Infocus device for the Board to review our current website and proposed changes. Discussion was held on changes needed. Decision was made for Mark to discuss our concerns with COBWEB and possibly change our current website plan. Several board members voiced a need to have more control over changes to our website. The need for more publicity of the website was also discussed. Motion was made and approved to denote Mark Vescovi as BPSA’s website manager for a two year term.
Coach/Player Development: Scott Talbott sent a note to be read at the meeting that PA West is still considering our request for the $750.00 grant money.
A discussion was held on how to best involve both flight and travel coaches in the BPSA. Decision was made to invite all flight coaches to our November meeting and all travel coaches to the December meeting. In this way, the BPSA can focus on the issues of the flight and travel programs individually. A note about the meeting will be sent to all flight coaches the last week of flights in October. Invitations by phone will be given to all travel coaches. Free refreshments will be on hand and all BPSA members are welcome to attend.
Fields: Brian Wassel noted that the lights do not come on automatically at Park Avenue. Coaches are to call the police department and request that the lights be turned on. They will be turned off when your practice is over. Scott Talbott advised that the presidents of the BPSA, Rec. Football and Lacrosse are to meet to do a walk-through of the shared fields to view the overuse of the fields. This will help to devise a permanent maintenance plan. Terry will call Jim Miller to arrange the walk-through.
Referees: The referee assigner, Bethany Bowman, reminded the Board that all game changes should be called in to her by the Tuesday before the game. She needs this time to make referee changes and to reschedule your postponed games.
Ballboys/Ballgirls: Stan Sbei noted that all girls’ games have been scheduled. Terry Bove stated that all boys’ games have also been scheduled by Rick Paglia.
Flights: No specific report.
Tournaments: All local and regional tournaments are listed on www.pawest-soccer.org.
Scott Talbott advised that the Bethel Park U-11 Tournament will be held at IMS on November 9th and 10th. Concession stands are available to the Boosters if they wish to run them.
Monthly Meetings: THE NEXT MEETING WILL BE HELD ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2002 AT 8:00 P.M. IN THE COUNCIL CAUCUS ROOM.
Upon motion made and seconded, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully Submitted,
Theresa Vescovi, BPSA Secretary
