Parents/Coaches Meeting –
|
|
Terry Bove, President of the Bethel Park
Soccer Association (BPSA), called the meeting to order at
Secretary’s Report: The May meeting minutes were officially approved.
Treasurer’s Report: Jack Kun announced a balance of $14,516.53. All invoices from MLS were paid. Storage fees were paid.
Speakers: MLS representative, Brett Russell, handed out copies of the MLS Final Report/Evaluation for the U-10 program. Player, coach and team evaluations were provided by James Mearer, the MLS trainer. Brett also left a proposed contract for the fall session for the Board’s review.
PR/Fundraising: Russ reported that pictures are tentatively scheduled for
September 21 and 22 for flights and travel teams. Russ will also attempt
to secure a rain date. Russ spoke with Beth Davenport from Uniroyal in conjunction with Bruce Brothers Tire Company in
Community Day: Russ Spicuzza agreed to chair the Community Day committee. Theresa Vescovi, Mark Vescovi and Tom Vater also agreed to help out with the committee. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow soccer parents and help show the community that the BPSA is an integral part of the local sports community. Anyone interested in working for one hour at the booth on Community Day, please call Theresa Vescovi at 833-8219. We need your help!
Equipment: MLS has approached the BPSA with a plan to save $2,700.00 on flight shirts, balls and socks. Discussion was held concerning our current providers. Eric Young will look into and compare the quality and cost of several providers for the fall season.
Web Site: Discussion was held on how to best use our one hour of “service” time to create changes or additions to our website. The time does not carry over from month to month. Our website needs must be evaluated and scheduled throughout the year, rather than all at once. Also, a decision was made that even if the hour is used up, Terry Bove or Theresa Vescovi will have authorization to go beyond that one hour to place the minutes on the newsletter page of the website. A discussion was also held concerning the possible ability of placing the minutes on the website directly, rather than going through a Cobweb representative.
Registration: Early bird registration was June 7th. June 28th is the final day for fall registration. Travel coaches are reminded to check to see if their players are registered for fall.
Tryouts:
Dave Porco advised that all teams that requested
tryouts went off successfully. A question was raised by Elaine Walsh
concerning the U-11 team divisions. Several players have not been contacted as
to which team they will be on in the fall. The issue of having enough players
to form a combined U-11/U-12 team was discussed. Roberta Gribowicz suggested that ALL players be contacted at the
same time concerning which team they were placed. Terry reminded everyone that
no teams are final until the Board approves the teams. Decision was made
to have a meeting between
A decision was also made to discuss the “A” and “B” team divisions for the U-10 level at the next meeting. Several municipalities split their teams equally at the U-10 level, rather than developing “A” and “B” teams. Many factors go into making this decision. Anyone with any input on this subject is encouraged to attend the next meeting in August.
Coach/Player Development: Stan Sbei compiled a list of all soccer training videos available through the library system. Some are on-site at the BP library, however most need to be ordered. A discussion was held on possibly placing this list on the website. If anyone wishes to see this list, please contact Stan Sbei or Terry Bove.
Fields:
Brian Wassel reported that topsoil is necessary to fix the Millenium
Field. The surface is extremely hard and grass is not growing.
Different remedies for the problem were discussed. Bill Harvey advised
that the Village Green field is in much better condition since the addition of
topsoil. A discussion was held on the best means of voicing our concerns
about Millenium Field to the
Flights: Bill Harvey commented that Flight 1 was very successful this year. Many positive responses were received from parents. Bill suggested that Flight 4 should have a weeknight practice. He also suggested that the cut-off time for Flight registration should be set for later in the summer. Discussion was held on having two separate cut-off registration dates: one for travel and one for Flights. This topic will be further reviewed at upcoming meetings.
Tournament: Plans are continuing for the November Bethel Park U-11 Tournament.
Summer Camps: Please note the following available summer camp programs:
Major League Soccer: July 29th through August 3rd
Riverhounds: June 17th through June 20th
Shoot to Score: July 15th through July 19th
If any team is interested in purchasing a week-long camp, please contact Brett Russell at the MLS office.
Monthly Meetings: THERE WILL
BE NO JULY MEETING. THE NEXT MEETING WILL BE HELD ON
Upon motion made and seconded, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully Submitted,
Theresa Vescovi, BPSA Secretary
